SAE 100 R13 steel wire spiraled hydraulic hose is suitable for high pressure hydraulic system, used for conveying mineral and biological oils, water-glycol based, water, lubricants. It has a fixed working pressure of 350bar (5075PSI), a safety factor of four times, and a bursting pressure of 1400bar (20300PSI). The structure consists of three parts, the inner tube is made of black oil-resistant synthetic rubber, and the reinforcement layer is made of four or six layers of high-tensile and high-strength steel wires alternately wound, so that the hose has extremely high working pressure. The number of layers of steel wire can control the working pressure of the hydraulic hose, Four layers of high-strength steel wire spiral up to size 1”; Six layers of spiral from size 1-1/4” to 2”. The outer hose is made of high-quality black synthetic rubber, which makes the hose resistant to wear, corrosion, cutting, weathering, ozone, aging and sunlight.
SAE 100 R15 hydraulic hose is suitable for petroleum-based hydraulic oil delivery in high-pressure and high-pulse applications. The structure of SAE 100 R15 and SAE 100 R13 is similar, they are all high-pressure steel wire spiral hydraulic hoses. But R15 can withstand higher pressure than R13 and can be designed in a smaller size. SAE 100 R15 hose has a working pressure of 420bar.
What is SAE 100R13/SAE R15?
SAE 100R13/SAE R15 is a four-layer or six-layer steel wire spiral reinforced hydraulic hose, SAE 100R13/SAE R15 is suitable for high pressure, high-temperature and high impulse hydraulic applications, used to transport petroleum-based hydraulic fluid, gasoline, water, diesel fuels, lubricating oils, glycol, mineral oils, and more. It has excellent pressure resistance, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and durability. The stable working pressure of SAE 100R13 working pressure 350bar ,SAE 100 R15 hose working pressure of 420bar,makes it widely used in various industries.
The performance of a high quality hydraulic hose, particularly those conforming to the SAE 100R13 and SAE 100R15 standards, is fundamentally enhanced by its multi-layer steel spiral reinforcement. This sophisticated construction method is what elevates these hoses to the realm of extremely high pressure and high impulse hydraulic applications.
The spiral design, featuring multiple layers of spiral plies of heavy steel wire wrapped in alternating directions, is critical for handling the immense internal forces. The alternating wrap pattern of the steel wires effectively counteracts the forces generated by the internal pressure, preventing the hose from elongating or ""snaking"" under load. This design provides superior structural integrity and minimizes volume change, which is vital for precise hydraulic control. The number of layers is directly proportional to the hose's working pressure; for the SAE 100R13, smaller sizes use four layers of high-strength steel wire spiral, while larger sizes use six layers of spiral, demonstrating that the design is precisely tuned to manage the pressure forces relative to the hose's diameter.
The result of this reinforcement is extremely high working pressure capability. For instance, the SAE 100 R13 has a fixed working pressure of 350 bar (5075 PSI), and the SAE 100 R15 can withstand an even higher working pressure of 420 bar. This immense strength provides a safety factor of four times the working pressure, ensuring reliability even during unexpected pressure surges or impulse cycles. The spiral layers also lock the hose against premature fatigue failure from constant flexing and pressure changes, which is a key measure of a high-quality product.
Beyond pressure containment, the materials used in the cover—high-quality black synthetic rubber—further enhance performance by resisting external degradation. This cover is compounded to be resistant to wear, corrosion, cutting, weathering, ozone, aging and sunlight, protecting the critical steel wire from environmental damage and securing the hose's durability and long service life.
Selecting a flexible high pressure hydraulic hose for systems operating under concurrent high-temperature and high-impulse conditions requires prioritizing specific material and structural properties, best exemplified by the SAE 100R13 and SAE 100R15 hoses.
The primary challenge in high-impulse applications is fatigue. These hoses are engineered to withstand not just high pressure, but rapid and repeated pressure spikes. The solution is the multiple layers of spiral plies of heavy steel wire. The spiral reinforcement structure, with layers wrapped in alternating directions, is fundamentally superior at distributing and absorbing the energy from pressure impulses, enabling the hose to achieve a high number of impulse cycles without internal or external structural breakdown. The SAE 100R15, specifically noted for its use in high-pulse applications, is the top choice when the system is subjected to severe, repetitive pressure cycling.
For high-temperature conditions, the chemical composition of the synthetic rubber layers is critical. The inner tube is made of oil resistant synthetic rubber, and the outer cover is also a high-quality synthetic rubber. These materials are formulated to remain stable and functional across a wide temperature range, typically up to +121℃. This thermal stability prevents the rubber from hardening, softening, or degrading prematurely under continuous heat exposure, which is vital for maintaining the hose's pressure-sealing capabilities and flexibility over time.
Furthermore, the flexible high pressure hydraulic hose must demonstrate excellent fluid compatibility under these challenging conditions. The SAE 100R13/SAE 100 R15 hose range is suitable for a wide array of media, including petroleum-based fluids, water-glycol based liquids, lubricants, and mineral oils. This versatility, combined with their ability to maintain flexibility and strength under extreme pressure and heat, confirms their suitability for the most demanding high-impulse, high-temperature hydraulic circuits.
The heavy steel wire spiral layers are the essential feature that dictates the durability and superior performance of flexible high pressure hydraulic hose types like SAE 100 R13/R15. These layers directly ensure the hose's immense pressure capacity, resistance to fatigue, and overall structural longevity.
The most crucial role is pressure containment. By using multiple layers (four to six layers, depending on the size) of heavy steel wire wrapped in a tight spiral configuration, the hose achieves an extremely high working pressure. For example, the SAE 100 R15 reaches 420 bar, a pressure that would instantly rupture standard hoses. The steel wire acts as the primary load-bearing element, transforming the flexible rubber into a high-strength pressure conduit. The alternating direction of the spiral wraps ensures the containment forces are balanced, preventing the hose from twisting or ballooning under pressure.
This robust reinforcement also provides exceptional fatigue resistance and durability in dynamic environments. The heavy wire construction resists the repeated stressing from pressure impulses and external flexing, which are common causes of failure in less reinforced hoses. The high-strength steel wires are engineered to maintain their integrity through thousands of pressure cycles, giving the hose a long service life and a high safety factor against bursting.
The durability is further protected by the hose's outer layer. The oil and weather resistant synthetic rubber cover is crucial for shielding the heavy steel wire spiral layers from external degradation. This cover resists wear, corrosion, cutting, weathering, ozone, aging and sunlight. If the steel wire were exposed to moisture or corrosive environments, it would rust and fail prematurely. The outer synthetic rubber provides the necessary environmental armor to ensure the mechanical strength of the wire remains intact throughout the hose’s operational life.
